The Welsh Government’s Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan (ArWAP) aims to create an anti-racist Wales by 2030. With five years remaining and an interim report published in 2024, what progress has been made to root out racism in Wales? What part can we all play in making the plan a reality?
Our annual Creating an Anti-Racist Wales Conference brings together colleagues from across government, education, culture, criminal justice, health and social care, VCS, and the private sector. Don’t miss the opportunity to network with colleagues and take steps to make Wales a truly anti-racist society.
Attend to understand what a successful anti-racism action plan looks like in practice, and how you can use data to monitor your anti-racism action plan. You will hear practical guidance and best practice examples from across Wales, hearing from key organisations such as Network Rail, Race Council Cymru, Gwent Police, Race Equality First, Diverse Cymru, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, and Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust. Racism must be addressed holistically and as early as possible. Speakers will share their anti-racist approaches in the workplace, in public services and across society. Understand what progress has been made and explore what more must be done.
With ethnicity pay reporting expected to become mandatory for some organisations, we will spotlight EDI data reporting and strategies that can be deployed to reduce the ethnicity pay gap across your organisation. We will hear from employers who are re-doubling efforts to diversify workforces and combat discrimination.
In the afternoon, choose from the following stream sessions.
What more can schools and colleges do to improve inclusion, embed an anti-racist curriculum, and tackle racism at its root? In this session, Professor Charlotte Williams OBE, from the Welsh Government will share good practice examples of schools committing to an anti-racist curriculum and address the next steps for education providers. You will hear best practice for logging, monitoring and the reporting of racist incidents in schools and learn about the Statutory Anti-Bullying Guidance.
2. Combatting Discrimination across Society
In this session we will hear about steps that are being taken to combat racial inequality, prejudice, and discrimination across Wales. Ali Abdi BEM from Race Council Cymru will discuss their work to engage and create opportunities for young members of the BAME community, and how you can do the same. Attend a workshop looking at human rights-based approaches to anti-racism, including how to educate stakeholders on their legal and civil rights. In a case study, we will spotlight anti-racist approaches in commerce and what it means to be anti-racist globally.
In-person – This conference will take place in Cardiff Marriott. Attend this full-day event in person to network, build relationships and learn from your peers.
